We have full time and part time hours. One of the biggest benefits of working in home care is that we can offer you great flexibility in when you do and do not work.
This will depend on your experience and qualifications, however we offer excellent rates of pay. Our lowest rate of pay is €12.50 per hour and experienced or specialised care staff can earn considerably more than that.
We also pay mileage between care calls which is a huge benefit as it is paid to you tax free. We pay €0.25 per km for the first 250km you drive per month and €0.15 per km for any additional hours. Mileage is definitely something you should consider carefully when comparing rates of pay, particularly with price of fuel rising.
In order to work as a home care assistant in Ireland, you should have a minimum of the following 2 modules of the QQI Healthcare Support qualification completed (or a better or equivalent qualification):
We also employ people with Special Needs Assistance, Social Care and Nursing qualifications, for example.
We're also interested to speak with you if you are studying towards a relevant qualification, as we may be able to employ you while you're studying.
If you don't have the necessary qualifications, visit www.fetchcourses.ie and search for "Care Assistant" and you should find a list of institutions offering the necessary course. Get back in touch with us once you've signed up for a course.
Having a car is very important if you live in a rural area or a small town. Otherwise we will struggle to get you enough work to make the job worth your while.
However, if you live in Dublin or another city or large town, you may be able to get to a lot of clients on foot, by bike or via public transport.
On recruitment, you will undertake our induction programme, which is day-long session covering topics like:
When you start visiting service users, you will be shadowed into the calls by an experienced member of staff who is familiar with the client. They will walk you through the care plan and introduce you to the service user on your first visit (sometimes multiple visits depending on the individual).
We also offer paid formal training in courses including but not limited to the following:
